石川・羽咋でトキ8羽を放鳥、本州で56年ぶり
APの6月1日付報道によると、トキ8羽が石川県 羽咋市で野生に放たれた。日本の保護活動にとって大きな節目と伝えられた。
According to an AP report dated June 1, eight crested ibises were released into the wild in Hakui, Ishikawa Prefecture. The event was reported as a major milestone for Japan's conservation efforts.
放鳥式では、秋篠宮皇嗣と紀子妃らがテープを切ったあと、木製の箱から鳥が空へ飛び立った。住民はその瞬間を見守った。
At the release ceremony, Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko cut a ribbon, and the birds took flight from wooden cages into the sky. Residents watched the moment closely.
本州での復帰に特別な意味
日本時間の5月31日に行われたこの放鳥は、本州では56年ぶりとされた。羽咋市のある能登地域は、トキが野生で最後に確認された 場所でもある。
The release, held on May 31 in Japan time, was described as the first on Honshu in 56 years. The Noto region, where Hakui is located, was also the place where crested ibises were last confirmed in the wild.
石川県の案内によると、1970年には本州 最後のトキ「ノリ」が能登で捕獲され、佐渡の保護施設へ移された。長い空白のあと、再び本州の空に戻ったことになる。
According to Ishikawa's guidance, the last crested ibis on Honshu, named Nori, was captured in Noto in 1970 and moved to a conservation facility on Sado. After a long gap, the birds have now returned to Honshu's skies once again.
佐渡の繁殖計画が支えた 回復
今回の8羽は、新潟県 佐渡島の保護施設で育てられた。報道では、さらに10羽が放鳥を待っているとされた。
The eight birds were raised at a conservation center on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. Reports said 10 more birds were still waiting to be released.
トキは東アジアに生息する 鳥で、翼の淡い赤色と目の周りの赤い模様で知られる。湿地や水田にいる生き物を食べるとされる。
Crested ibises are birds native to East Asia, known for their pale reddish wings and red markings around their eyes. They are said to feed on creatures living in wetlands and rice paddies.
絶滅からの再出発
トキは乱獲や環境悪化で減少し、1970年代に本州で姿を消した。日本原産の最後のトキも2003年に佐渡で死んだ。
Crested ibises declined because of overhunting and environmental degradation and disappeared from Honshu in the 1970s. The last native Japanese crested ibis also died on Sado in 2003.
それでも1999年には、中国から贈られたつがいによる人工繁殖が成功し、日本で初めて飼育下のひなが生まれた。繁殖と野生復帰の計画が、そのあと続いてきた。
Even so, artificial breeding succeeded in 1999 using a pair donated from China, and the first chick born in captivity in Japan was produced. Breeding and return-to-the-wild programs continued after that.
APは、2008年に佐渡で最初の放鳥が行われ、いまでは周辺の野生個体が500羽ほどに増えたと伝えた。
AP reported that the first release on Sado took place in 2008 and that the surrounding wild population has now grown to around 500 birds.
能登の回復を映す 象徴
この放鳥は、2024年の能登半島地震から立ち直る 地域にとって、明るい象徴とも受け止められた。地元では復興の流れと重ねて 見られている。
The release was also received as a hopeful symbol for a region still recovering from the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake. Locally, it is being seen alongside the area’s reconstruction efforts.
石川県のサイトは、トキが人の接近に驚きやすく、十分な餌を取れなくなることがあると説明する。今後も静かな生息地づくりが重要だと見られる。
Ishikawa Prefecture's website explains that crested ibises are easily startled by people approaching and may then struggle to get enough food. It is therefore seen as important to keep building quiet habitat conditions from here.
