とべ動物園、アムールヒョウ「ラム」を19日から初公開
愛媛県 砥部町のとべ動物園で、アムールヒョウ「ラム」の一般公開が5月19日から始まると報じられた。園でアムールヒョウを飼育するのは初めてとされる。
Tobe Zoo in Tobe, Ehime Prefecture was reported to begin public viewings of the Amur leopard Ram on May 19. It is said to be the first time the zoo has kept an Amur leopard.
「ラム」の公開が始まる
報道によると、公開が始まるのは、6歳の雌のアムールヒョウ「ラム」だという。広島県の福山市立動物園から、今年2月24日に搬入されたと伝えられている。
According to reports, the leopard going on display is Ram, a six-year-old female. She was reportedly transferred in on February 24 from Fukuyama City Zoo in Hiroshima Prefecture.
とべ動物園は、ラムが新しい環境に慣れたため、一般公開を始めることにしたとしている。公開は「ヒョウ舎」で行われるとされ、開園日の午前中に見られるという。
The zoo says it decided to start public viewings after Ram became used to her new surroundings. She is expected to be shown in the leopard house during the morning on days when the zoo is open.
希少な大型ネコ科の動物
アムールヒョウは、ロシア極東や中国東北部に広がる 寒冷な森林地帯に生息するとされる。報道では、世界で最も 希少な大型ネコ科の動物のひとつだと紹介された。
The Amur leopard is said to live in cold forest regions stretching across Russia's Far East and northeastern China. Reports described it as one of the rarest big cats in the world.
今回の公開で、来園者はラムの毛並みや体格、動きを近くで 見られるようになると見られる。園にとっても、新しい見どころのひとつになりそうだ。
